Why a polished technical specification is not proof of the exact machines being sold

A multi-unit Jenbacher J320 transaction in China came with what appeared to be a normal technical package.

The supplied specification referred to:

JGS320_D25_400V

But photographs of the actual machines showed nameplates identifying:

JGS320_D21_400V

That discrepancy did not automatically mean the machines were unsuitable.

It meant something more fundamental:

the documents and the physical assets were not yet describing the same thing.

Short Answer

Is a D21 / D25 mismatch in a used J320 transaction a serious issue?

Yes — as a due-diligence issue.

A mismatch between the supplier specification and the physical nameplate does not prove that one version is “bad”. It proves that the buyer does not yet have a reliable serial-specific description of the exact asset being purchased.

Before payment, the buyer should verify:

  • exact engine version;
  • serial numbers;
  • actual electrical configuration;
  • fuel / gas compatibility;
  • included package;
  • any conversion requirement.

But a generic or supplier-provided specification is not the identity of the exact machine.

By 14 March 2024, the inspection concept explicitly included:

  • physical inspection;
